Raphael Sagage

Raphael Sagage began painting at the age of seven in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His source of inspiration
has always been the objects of everyday life and the natural world that surrounds him. Their colors, patterns, shapes and textures fascinate him. Rather than paint exactly what he sees, Raphael prefers to let his response to his surroundings be guided by his paintbrush. This vision is reflected in paintings which include experimental
techniques combined with more traditional applications of impressionism. He often assimilates cubist characteristics into his expressionistic style. He is considered a forerunner in abstract realism. As a sculptor, Raphael uses his hands to create objects that reflect the oneness we often overlook in relation to our spirituality.

Raphael’s pieces have been featured in several group and solo exhibitions, and his work is well represented in both private and corporate collections. Some of his collectors include former Senator Max Cleland,
Evander Holyfield, Ted Turner, and an array of international and local supporters.

Raphael has served as a professor of Fine Arts at the Ecole National des Arts in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He has received numerous recognitions and reviews from the United Nations -1990; Christies and Sotherbys -1994; a Proclamation from the City of Atlanta in 1996; He continues to share his talent and philosophy with other people, encouraging them to realize the importance of art and its various forms rather than being guided by worldly materialistic items.
