The Link at Columbia, Decatur East
Decatur East is one of the newer, more exciting corridors taking shape between Decatur and Avondale Estates, and The Link at Columbia — a senior residence built out by Fusion Architectural Interior Design — is part of that growth. Corey Barksdale was brought on to fill a long interior hallway wall with a mural that would greet residents daily with color, movement, and a sense of home.

Inspired by Atlanta Reflections
Rather than start from a blank wall, Corey built the Decatur East mural around his existing Atlanta Reflections concept — a skyline rendered in warm reds, oranges, and blues behind patterned, silhouetted figures caught mid-celebration. The goal was a piece that feels like Atlanta itself: layered, diverse, and alive. Figures dressed in African-pattern textiles stand shoulder to shoulder with dancers and musicians against Decatur's own skyline nod, a visual reminder to residents and visitors that the city's culture is built from many different threads woven together.

The finished mural, from every angle
Once the scaffolding came down, the mural filled the hallway corner to corner — close enough to Avondale Estates and Decatur that it reads as a piece of both, and big enough that it takes a few different vantage points to see the whole thing.
